Edwin Shaffer has always considered himself an artist and was first introduced to tattooing by a friend, who got him an interview with the world famous Kari Barba. This led to an apprenticeship under Kari at Twilight Fantasy in Anahiem Ca (now called Kari Barba's Outer Limits Tattoo), what an awesome life changing opportunity! It was at Twilight Fantasy that he met Bill Carlson who quickly took him under his wing, teaching Edwin the tricks of the trade. Working in Anahiem was an awesome experience, getting to work with some of the best in the business in one of the busiest shops in So. Cal. Two years later Bill and Edwin teamed up to open Big Bear Tattoo in Beautiful Big Bear Lake Ca. It was a big move, especially since Edwin was still new to tattooing, and because Big Bear is such a small community. While working in the mountains Edwin continued working for Kari another 6 years, and during that time he also spent some time working at the following shops:Kari Barba's Outer Limits Tattoo in Orange, Skinworks tattoo and Balboa tattoo in Balboa, and Body Graphics in Temecula. As of now, Edwin only works in Big Bear. All these years later Big Bear Tattoo is going stronger than ever thanks to the locals and to the devoted clients that are willing to make the drive up the hill.
